artisan wine makers Since 2013

We never thought of becoming wine makers. We fell into the craft after we had discovered our home on the Szent György-hegy. We settled here to begin a peaceful life, to live in harmony with nature and give ourselves enough time to truly experience our lives. The wine making just so happened as both of us always appreciated a good glass of wine and here we found ourselves amongst the vineyards and the wineries. What else could we have done but to make wine.

Aron was born in London to Hungarian German parents. Istvan and Bella Molnar had many talents, but it is one which particularly inspired Aron - they were restauranteurs. Istvan and Bella were behind the success of the two famous Hungarian restaurants in London - their own "Molnars", and the Soho based "The Gay Hussar" managed by Bella. "The Gay Hussar" was a place with simple food and good wine, yet never short of dining guests, among them some prominent public figures. The senior Molnars themselves were prolific cooks often entertaining guests in their home. The love for cooking and wine stayed with Aron when he left London. Aron lived in India for 5 years, where he learnt to cook staple Indian cuisine from a family where he rented a house. He walked in the Himalayas for months observing the food culture in tea houses along the path. As Aron travelled through the Middle East and the Mediterranean, he learnt and experienced the many foods of different cultures. Eventually, his occupation as a DJ led him to Copenhagen, where he and Karina met. Karina, then a student in Copenhagen, is from Riga. Aron & Karina had a good life in Scandinavia's most hip city, but they both wished for a life closer to nature. The decision was made to settle in Hungary.

The first wines were made for our own enjoyment. PAP winery is a venture which developed without a grand plan. It became the family business owing to our passion for wine and enjoying the work. We simply are curious to see what is the best wine we can produce from the grapes of each harvest. Our vineyards are on 1.5 hectares on the South and South-East slopes of the Szent György-hegy.

We envision the PAP winery to remain a small boutique winery. Here what is of  first and foremost importance is the quality of the wine. We believe the lay of the land and the volcanic soil of the Szent György-hegy has the potential to produce unique wines true to the location. Our job is to bottle this truth.
